The sculpture is based on Fortis’ experience living with chronic tinnitus, which appears as loud as her own voice. By working in metal, a medium that exacerbates her condition, the sculpture became an endurance piece where she navigated the physical strain of her condition. The artwork explores the recurring fantasies provoked by hearing constant phantom noises.
