This drawing was created following a pivotal moment in Fortis’ experience of hearing loss. After five years of partial sensory deprivation, the artist briefly regained access to sound through a hearing aid trial, encountering music in a way she had not for years. Emerging from this moment, the work reflects on the bittersweet nature of sensory return, where absence and presence coexist, and a lost sensation can be experienced anew.
