Cast A Veil, 2022
Gesso bandages, textiles
30cm x 150cm x 100cm
The installation focuses on the dismissal and invalidation of sexual violence cases in the justice system. Resembling the structure of a courtroom, the artwork provokes an audience to judge a faceless, vulnerable and veiled body. The translucent fabric represents how sexual violence remains an omnipresent yet inadequately addressed issue. By stripping away characteristics related to identity, the artwork highlights how victims are often reduced to their trauma and left exposed to societal scrutiny.
