Crowd of Corpses, 2021
DSLR photography, digital painting on canvas
140cm x 100cm
A photograph taken by Fortis in 2019 as a tourist, the last time she had travelled before worldwide lockdowns began, was digitally manipulated to highlight the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic. At the time, crowds as the one photographed no longer existed and were forbidden. The red, overlaid paint is symbolic of life during the pandemic and explores elements of death, religion, medicine, and politics.
